The Foundation

Established in 2021 to invest in novel solutions designed to serve victims and survivors of crime.

Our Mandate is clear.

In 2021, the Province of Manitoba announced it had provided $5 million in start-up funding to The Aurora Foundation. This gift of funding was generated from surcharge revenue collected through the court system resulting from convictions.

The mandate of The Aurora Foundation is to invest in novel approaches to support and service victims and survivors of crime and those who experience victimization. The Foundation seeks new methods to addressing systematic challenges in our communities across Manitoba.

Our Mission is Focused

The Aurora Foundation’s mission is to be the lasting difference for people affected by crime. By all accounts, directly or indirectly, we are all impacted by crime. We carry a collective responsibility to care for those among us who face tragedy and trauma as the result of crime.

All crime destroys families and therefore, our communities. Over time, the continuous onslaught of violent crime has compounding impact for all of us. With such high rates of crime in Manitoba, we must act by considering new methods for lifting up those directly affected.

The Aurora Foundation will focus on organizations led by members of the Indigenous and BAPOC communities as a reflection of those disproportionately affected by crime. Our priorities align with those of provincial and national significance, including:

The Truth & Reconciliation Commission of Canada: Calls to Action;

Empathy

Empathy is a verb and true empathy is a call to action.

Innovation

New methods and approaches to address complex, dynamic issues.

Voice

Listen, acknowledge and lift up the voices of victims and survivors calling out.

Intentional

Act with mindfulness and intention, to invest for the long-term benefit of victims and survivors.

Serving Manitoba, prioritizing northern Manitoba

The Aurora Foundation will prioritize resources in northern Manitoba, where the demand and need for resources is exceptionally high yet the investment has been considerably less than urban areas over the years.
